Day 3 – Roluos, Floating Village & Beng Mealea The third day combines some of the earliest evidence of Khmer culture with a fascinating boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake and a visit to the mysterious Beng Mealea Temple. The route offers a varied mix of history, nature and authentic Cambodian life. In the morning, the tour first heads to Roluos, one of the oldest significant temple groups in the Angkor region. Here, you will find some of the earliest major monuments of the Khmer Empire. Bakong Temple is particularly impressive with its pyramid-shaped architecture and is considered one of the most important temples of the early Khmer period. The tour then continues to Preah Ko Temple, known for its beautifully decorated towers and intricate details. Together, these two temples provide a fascinating insight into the development of Khmer architecture. The journey continues to Kampong Phluk, a traditional floating village on Tonle Sap Lake. A boat trip through the stilted and floating settlements offers a unique glimpse into the lives of people whose daily existence is closely connected to Southeast Asia’s largest lake. Depending on the water level, the landscape changes dramatically, revealing a very different side of Cambodia. A special experience is the journey through the mangroves of the “Floating Forest.” The boat follows narrow waterways surrounded by dense greenery. This peaceful ride offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the natural environment of Tonle Sap away from the busier areas. The final highlight of the day is Beng Mealea Temple, located slightly off the classic Angkor route. The extensive ruins offer a particularly authentic impression of Khmer architecture. Overgrown walls, collapsed galleries and scattered blocks of stone give the temple a mysterious and adventurous atmosphere. Among ancient carvings, massive stone blocks and dense vegetation, you can experience the history of the Khmer Empire in a particularly vivid way. A varied day filled with early Khmer architecture, local culture, unique waterways, mangrove forests and atmospheric temple ruins – a memorable finale to your three-day Angkor tour.
