Day 1: Angkor Wat & the Highlights of Angkor Archaeological Park The day begins early with an unforgettable sunrise over Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s most famous temple. As the first rays of sunlight bathe the towers and their reflection in the water in warm colours, a truly magical atmosphere unfolds. Afterwards, there is time to explore the impressive temple complex and discover its intricate bas-reliefs, galleries and towers. The tour continues to the South Gate of Angkor Thom, a monumental entrance to the former capital of the Khmer Empire. The impressive bridge, lined with statues of gods and demons, leads directly into the historic city. At the heart of Angkor Thom lies the Bayon Temple, famous for its many mysterious stone faces. The serene, smiling faces carved into the towers are among the most iconic sights in the entire Angkor region. Next, you will explore Phimeanakas, a historic temple located within the former royal palace complex. Directly beside it stands the Baphuon Temple, an impressive pyramid-shaped structure with several levels and a magnificent temple complex. Another highlight is the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King.
